Summer of Shakespeare.

What to Expect

A child friendly approach to The Bard.

Weekly enthrallment with verse and theater.

Summer of Shakespeare at Nookhouse is designed to introduce your children to one of the literary greats with weekly dives into his comedy, Twelfth Night.

❋ Summer Structure

Maintain some regularity to prevent the summer black hole of going to the pool every day. Join Nookhouse for literature exposure and writing practice.

❋ Cursive & memorization

We write every session! For summer, we recite then write a Twelfth Night quote in cursive and watercolor the paper, all while getting accustomed to Shakespearean language.

❋ Deep dive

We dissect the play and read child friendly versions first before tackling the original language. We do character studies while we immerse ourselves in story.

❋ end of term performance

The last week will be a rehearsal intensive while we prepare for an abbreviated performance of Twelfth Night. All are welcome to take in the show!

  • "I am so grateful for Nookhouse, just one day a week has helped our family immensely and has become her favorite day of the week."

    Carlie

  • "Hannah has created such a warm and welcoming environment for our daughters to develop a deeper love of learning and inspired our girls to care more about the quality of their work."

    Gabi

  • "It gives me, the mom, a chance to catch up on chores and time well spent with my littles, while my older kids are enjoying learning in a familiar environment by a new face!"

    Keslie

Shakespeare was meant to be performed.

It’s never too early for Shakespeare.

Ignite children’s taste for Shakespeare early to sharpen critical thinking.

Expose them to rich language that expands comprehension and expression.

Wrestle with questions of morality through character study and plot.

Build cultural literacy through one of the greatest writers of all time.

But more than anything, children learn best through story and immersive exploration. At Nookhouse, we believe in nurturing children’s curiosity and natural desire to discover by making learning meaningful. Performing Twelfth Night with their peers will leave a lasting impression.

FAQs

Of course! We all want to enjoy the warm weather and camping and traveling season. You can drop in when you are available! But your children will get the most out of the program if they come consistently so they can become very familiar with the play. If they miss too many weeks, they’ll feel a little lost.

I can’t commit to the whole summer. Can we drop in?
